- during the development of sonic 06, another action game (that was later cancelled) named fifth phantom saga featured core gameplay mechanics that focused on similar abilities to silver's.
- wanting to give silver features that emphasized his abilities, the dev team sought to give him attributes that no other sonic character had.
- the design team went through 50 different concepts for his character. when they first started, someone came up with the idea of a character with sonic's scarf-like hair, but in more volume. this created a mink named "venice", after venice in italy, as soleanna was based after venice. however, the dev team feared a mink would not blend in with the other characters, so after much discussion, they finalized silver as a hedgehog.
- early drafts describe silver as having "special powers" drawn from the chaos emeralds. however, this was rejected in the final game.
- silver's character was based on future trunks from the dragon ball series.
